Happy 2012! Tatchme’s New Year Skin Care and Beauty Resolutions.

Tatchme wishes you all very Happy New Year. Loads and loads of love and best wishes for all of our dearest friends!

We like to share with you our top five clock-stopping beauty secrets:

  1. Wear sunscreen everyday (at least SPF 30) - Sun damage means wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation and loss of elasticity and skin firmness.
  2. Quit smoking - The nicotine from cigarette smoke affects capillaries in the face, reducing the amount of oxygen it receives. That results in more and deeper wrinkles and drier skin.Reduce alcoholic drinks.
  3. Reduce alcoholic drinks - Alcohol accelerates skin aging and excess alcohol is a recipe for wrinkles and ill health.
  4. Cut back on sugary treats – They reduce collagen’s regenerative ability and increasing collagen breakdown by making it stiff and inflexible.
  5. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! - Drink a lot of water and keep your skin moisturized, all day long.

Rebecca BotzemAnd of course, TAKE TIME FOR YOU: don’t forget to make yourself the number one priority during the year. We all know that stress from everyday life can take its toll on your skin, causing breakouts as well as fine lines and wrinkles. Do something relaxing for yourself: get a massage, take a bath, or even an occasional glass of wine will help you de-stress from a long day.

New Year, New You!

2012 will be a very excited year for Tatchme. We are about to present Tatchme's new body and spa line and planning many launch events around the world... Stay tuned!  www.tatchme.com

ROBERTS & TURLINGTON’S L’OREAL ADS BANNED FOR TOO MUCH AIRBRUSHING

Actress Julia Roberts and super model Christy Turlington are supposed to be among the world's most beautiful women, but not according to a cosmetics giant that airbrushed their pictures so much they have now been banned….

The official British watchdog group, the Advertising Standards Authority  (ASA) ruled that Julia Roberts’ L’Oréal advertisement for Lancôme and Maybelline campaign featuring Christy Turlington breached the advertising standards code for exaggeration and being misleading and banned them from future publication.

According to BBC News, Member of Parliament Jo Swinson has been lobbying against digitally altered images and she raised the red flag on two L’Oreal advertisements she claimed were “not representative of the results the products could achieve.” One ad features actress Julia Roberts for Lancome Teint Miracle foundation, while the other shows supermodel Christy Turlington for a Maybelline foundation called The Eraser. As evidenced by the ads, the results of these products, both owned by parent company L’Oreal, are just a little too flawless.

766784 julia roberts lancome resized 600In Roberts’ foundation ad, the text claims it is the “1st foundation that recreates the aura of perfect skin.” MP Jo Swinson felt the real magic was done digitally. L’Oreal admitted they retouched the photos, but stood true to their claim that the products could potentially yield these results. The ASA requested a before shot to illustrate just how much the ad was digitally manipulated, but unfortunately Roberts’ contract stipulates that no un-airbrushed shots can be released. L’Oreal supplied red carpet photos of the actress to illustrate her nice complexion, but that was not enough.

Christy Turlington’s Maybelline ad has also been pulled for portraying unrealistic results.

As for Christy Turlington’s ad, describe the imageL’Oreal confirmed to the ASA that the ad was modified to “lighten the skin, clean up make-up, reduce dark shadows and shading around the eyes, smooth the lips and darken the eyebrows.” They said they didn’t believe they had crossed the line, but the ASA said her left eye had been significantly altered (seriously, where are the wrinkles?). Once again, L’Oreal refused to provide the un-retouched images to see exactly how much work had been done. Since this is a requirement for the ASA, Turlington’s ad was pulled in the UK as well.

“Excessive airbrushing and digital manipulation techniques have become the norm, but both Christy Turlington and Julia Roberts are naturally beautiful women who don’t need retouching to look great.” said Swinson.

This is not the first time the British government has banned advertisements for being too heavy on the retouching. In 2009 it banned an Olay ad featuring Twiggy for similar reasons.

EVERY CALORIE YOU AVOID ADDS ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO YOUR LIFESPAN

If you're looking to dip into the Fountain of Youth, cutting some calories daily just might help.

It is proven: longevity can be increased by restricting the amount of calories consumed every day while assuring proper nutrition. Calorie restriction is not about starvation. It’s about lowering caloric intake.

Excess body fat increases an individual’s general cancer risk, and having a large waistline is a particular risk for developing bowel and pancreatic cancer, breast cancer for those women who have been through the menopause, and cancer of the womb lining.calories restriction

Top Tips for Cutting Calories Easily

  • Eat the low in calorie items on your plate first. Start with salads, vegetables, and broth soups, and then eat meats and starches last. By the time you get to those you might be full enough to be content with smaller portions of the high in calorie choices.
  • Eat at least two servings of a fruit or vegetables at every meal.
  • Start eating a big breakfast. It can help you eat fewer total calories throughout the day.
  • When dining out, make it a rule to order one dessert to share.
  • See what you eat. Put your food on a plate, rather than eating out a jar or bag.
  • Don’t skip meals, be a healthy eater and diet by day.
  • Choose grilled or steamed foods instead of greasy, fried ones
  • Choose fresh, natural foods as they often offer more nutrients with fewer calories.
  • Last, but not least:  Increase daily physical activity to burn more calories.

<b>TOP 5 FOODS TO BOOST YOUR MOOD (AND YOUR SKIN GLOW!)<b>

Being well and happy is good for your health and prolongs your life. Emotions have also a powerful impact on our appearance. A range of emotions—and the ability to express them—are what make you human and beautiful.

It's true. When you're happy, you tend to feel positive, radiant and joyful. Tatchme® Anti-Aging Skin Care believes that emotions have a strong impact our beauty and that our sense of smell is very powerful.  As the journey to the source of wellbeing, Tatchme® has enriched its rejuvenating skin creams with two natural essential oils. Discover our product lines now!

We've heard the expression “you are what you eat” and in this article we explain you what to eat to feel good. If you find yourself cranky, tired and even clinically depressed, you may be able to boost your mood by changing what you eat and when you eat.

Comfort food doesn’t have to mean macaroni and cheese and cookie dough. Dig into these 5 "pick-me-up" foods packed with ingredients to increase energy, decrease anxiety or simply put a smile on your face.

SALMON (OMEGA-3 FATS)

salmonA study in the journal Nutrition found that women with the highest intakes of EPA and DHA—two omega-3 fats found in fish such as salmon, trout and sardines—were less likely to experience symptoms of depression. Omega-3s help promote proper functioning of the neurotransmitters that regulate mood, scientists say. Natural sources include salmon, mackerel, herring and sardines. And because fat is satiating, omega-3s curb hunger for hours. Also, the special essential fatty acids and antioxidants in salmon give skin a remarkable suppleness, radiance and youthful glow.

CHEESE & MILK (VITAMIN D)

vitamin DA 2010 study in the International Archives of Medicine found that you're more likely to be bummed out if you are vitamin D deficient. Vitamin D is a precursor to the hormone serotonin, also known as the “happiness hormone,” for its association with mood regulation and relaxation. The primary source of vitamin D is from fortified foods such as milk, juices, breads and breakfast cereals. Short exposure to the sun rays and taking vitamin D supplements also helps in synthesizing and regulating vitamin D in your body.

BLUEBERRIES

blueberriesThis "superfruit" is teeming with antioxidants that keep your neural pathways running smoothly, promoting positive energy. New research shows that compounds in the berries help to re-write our genetic code so that the body becomes its own antioxidant factory.

Blueberries boost mood and memory.

Considering their size, berries are pound for pound one of the best anti-aging and longevity promoting foods.  Low in fat and packed with nutrients, you cannot go wrong.

EXTRA-VERGIN OLIVE OIL

olive oilPeople who ate a Mediterranean-style diet rich in olive oil, nuts, whole grains, fish, legumes, and vegetables were 30 percent less likely to suffer from depression, compared to those who had the lowest Mediterranean diet scores, according to a study the Archives of General Psychiatry. The mix of nutrients in this happy diet can keep your spirits up, scientists say.

Please review our article on the Mediterranean-style diet.

DARK CHOCOLATE

dark chocolateChocolate contains mood-boosting compounds such as theobromine and phenylethyamine. A recent Swiss study found that eating a little over an ounce of antioxidant-rich dark chocolate daily for two weeks reduced stress hormone levels including cortisol in people with high anxiety. Dark chocolate, the richer in cocoa the better, is not only a to-die-for treat; it's actually good for you. And just 1 oz of a very special chocolate packs more than twice the healthy antioxidants punch of red wine or other dark chocolates.

Bonus: dark chocolate is also on this list of the best foods for better sex!

<b>EMOTIONS ARE POWERFUL: HAPPY PEOPLE TEND TO LIVE LONGER<b>

be happy!

Subjective Well-Being (SWB) is how researchers define the individual’s current evaluation of happiness. Such an evaluation is often expressed in affective terms; when asked about subjective well-being, participants will often say, “I feel good”, “I feel happy”.

A  high Subjective Well-Being (SWB) seems to have a direct effect on the health and longevity, making it even increased by 14 percent!!

This is according to Professor Ed Diener, Department of Psychology University of Illinois, who has just published in the Journal of Applied Psychology: Health and Well-Being the most comprehensive review so far of the evidence linking happiness to health outcomes.

Taking into account 160 studies, this review has found "clear and compelling evidence" that -- all else being equal -- happy people tend to live longer and experience better health than their unhappy peers.

"We reviewed eight different types of studies," Diener (nicknamed Dr. Happiness) said. "And the general conclusion from each type of study is that your subjective well-being -- that is, feeling positive about your life, not stressed out, not depressed -- contributes to both longevity and better health among healthy populations."

"I was almost shocked and certainly surprised to see the consistency of the data," Diener said. "All of these different kinds of studies point to the same conclusion: that health and then longevity in turn are influenced by our mood states."

Being Happy Makes you Live Longer and Look Better

So being well and happy is good for your health and prolongs your life. In general, experiencing more positive emotions is a good way of improving SWB. Positive emotions are deep felt emotions like love, joy, gratitude, interest, and hope. While negative emotions close our minds down, positive emotions open them up.

Emotions have also a powerful impact on our appearance. A range of emotions—and the ability to express them—are what make you human and beautiful.

It's true. When you're happy, you tend to feel positive, radiant and joyful.

Tatchme® boosts Positive Emotions with Aromatherapy

<b>TATCHME GIVEAWAY: EAT AN APPLE A DAY<b>

An apple a day really can help keep the doctor away.

Researchers from Florida State University decided to put apples to the test. Bahram Arjmandi, chair of the department of nutrition, food and exercise sciences at Florida State University in Tallahassee presented the findings at the Experimental Biology meeting in Washington D.C. on April 12, 2011.

They recruited 160 women between the ages of 45 and 65 and randomly assigned them to eat daily servings of either dried apples or prunes, which are dried plums. Study participants received blood tests to look for markers of heart health after 3, 6, and 12 months.

apples

The women who ate apples saw their low-density lipoprotein cholesterol — the "bad" kind known as LDL — drop by 23 percent after six months. At the same time, their "good" high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, or HDL, rose about 4 percent. Women in the apple group ate 2/3 cup each day. Though the apple slices added 240 calories to their daily diet, these women wound up losing weight — 3.3 pounds, on average.

The researchers suggest that two compounds found in apple known as pectin and a class of antioxidants known as polyphenols were behind the heart benefit.

Pectin

The soluble fibre, pectin, is singled out as one of the most beneficial fibres with unique health-promoting qualities.

Pectins are complex polysaccharides (fibres) present in the cell walls of plants and in the spaces between cell walls. Apples are an excellent source of pectin as they can contain from 10 to 20 percent pectin in dried apple pomace. The peel itself contains 15 percent pectin.

Antioxidants

Apple polyphenol are potent antioxidants for scavenging free radicals that are ever present in our bodies. A recent study by the Chinese University of Hong Kong shows that polyphenol extends average lifespan by 10 percent.

When people in the United States consume fruits, 22% of antioxidant compounds come from apples. This makes apples the greatest source of antioxidants in the American diet.

types of apple

Three Easy Tips

  1. Choose organically grown apples whenever possible.
  2. Most of the apple's fiber is contained in its skin. Peeling apples results in the loss of flavonoids and most of its valuable fiber.
  3. Eat the whole fruit instead of simply drinking apple juice, eating peel-free applesauce or taking fiber supplements.
