EVERY CALORIE YOU AVOID ADDS ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO YOUR LIFESPAN

If you're looking to dip into the Fountain of Youth, cutting some calories daily just might help.

It is proven: longevity can be increased by restricting the amount of calories consumed every day while assuring proper nutrition. Calorie restriction is not about starvation. It’s about lowering caloric intake.

Excess body fat increases an individual’s general cancer risk, and having a large waistline is a particular risk for developing bowel and pancreatic cancer, breast cancer for those women who have been through the menopause, and cancer of the womb lining.calories restriction

Top Tips for Cutting Calories Easily

  • Eat the low in calorie items on your plate first. Start with salads, vegetables, and broth soups, and then eat meats and starches last. By the time you get to those you might be full enough to be content with smaller portions of the high in calorie choices.
  • Eat at least two servings of a fruit or vegetables at every meal.
  • Start eating a big breakfast. It can help you eat fewer total calories throughout the day.
  • When dining out, make it a rule to order one dessert to share.
  • See what you eat. Put your food on a plate, rather than eating out a jar or bag.
  • Don’t skip meals, be a healthy eater and diet by day.
  • Choose grilled or steamed foods instead of greasy, fried ones
  • Choose fresh, natural foods as they often offer more nutrients with fewer calories.
  • Last, but not least:  Increase daily physical activity to burn more calories.

Being well and happy is good for your health and prolongs your life. Emotions have also a powerful impact on our appearance. A range of emotions—and the ability to express them—are what make you human and beautiful.

It's true. When you're happy, you tend to feel positive, radiant and joyful. Tatchme® Anti-Aging Skin Care believes that emotions have a strong impact our beauty and that our sense of smell is very powerful.  As the journey to the source of wellbeing, Tatchme® has enriched its rejuvenating skin creams with two natural essential oils. Discover our product lines now!

We've heard the expression “you are what you eat” and in this article we explain you what to eat to feel good. If you find yourself cranky, tired and even clinically depressed, you may be able to boost your mood by changing what you eat and when you eat.

Comfort food doesn’t have to mean macaroni and cheese and cookie dough. Dig into these 5 "pick-me-up" foods packed with ingredients to increase energy, decrease anxiety or simply put a smile on your face.

SALMON (OMEGA-3 FATS)

salmonA study in the journal Nutrition found that women with the highest intakes of EPA and DHA—two omega-3 fats found in fish such as salmon, trout and sardines—were less likely to experience symptoms of depression. Omega-3s help promote proper functioning of the neurotransmitters that regulate mood, scientists say. Natural sources include salmon, mackerel, herring and sardines. And because fat is satiating, omega-3s curb hunger for hours. Also, the special essential fatty acids and antioxidants in salmon give skin a remarkable suppleness, radiance and youthful glow.

CHEESE & MILK (VITAMIN D)

vitamin DA 2010 study in the International Archives of Medicine found that you're more likely to be bummed out if you are vitamin D deficient. Vitamin D is a precursor to the hormone serotonin, also known as the “happiness hormone,” for its association with mood regulation and relaxation. The primary source of vitamin D is from fortified foods such as milk, juices, breads and breakfast cereals. Short exposure to the sun rays and taking vitamin D supplements also helps in synthesizing and regulating vitamin D in your body.

BLUEBERRIES

blueberriesThis "superfruit" is teeming with antioxidants that keep your neural pathways running smoothly, promoting positive energy. New research shows that compounds in the berries help to re-write our genetic code so that the body becomes its own antioxidant factory.

Blueberries boost mood and memory.

Considering their size, berries are pound for pound one of the best anti-aging and longevity promoting foods.  Low in fat and packed with nutrients, you cannot go wrong.

EXTRA-VERGIN OLIVE OIL

olive oilPeople who ate a Mediterranean-style diet rich in olive oil, nuts, whole grains, fish, legumes, and vegetables were 30 percent less likely to suffer from depression, compared to those who had the lowest Mediterranean diet scores, according to a study the Archives of General Psychiatry. The mix of nutrients in this happy diet can keep your spirits up, scientists say.

Please review our article on the Mediterranean-style diet.

DARK CHOCOLATE

dark chocolateChocolate contains mood-boosting compounds such as theobromine and phenylethyamine. A recent Swiss study found that eating a little over an ounce of antioxidant-rich dark chocolate daily for two weeks reduced stress hormone levels including cortisol in people with high anxiety. Dark chocolate, the richer in cocoa the better, is not only a to-die-for treat; it's actually good for you. And just 1 oz of a very special chocolate packs more than twice the healthy antioxidants punch of red wine or other dark chocolates.

Bonus: dark chocolate is also on this list of the best foods for better sex!

<b>DRINKING COFFEE MAY HELP YOU STAY HEALTHIER AND LIVE LONGER <b>

In one of our most popular blog post, we claimed that a cup of coffee a day may help you to look younger and healthier. If you have missed it, please read it here

We also reported the Harvard Women's Health Watch claiming that moderate coffee consumption, defined as 3 to 4 cups per day, is actually beneficial to your health… Now, new findings come to support this statement.

cup coffeeAccording to a new study published in the journal "Stroke", a publication of the American Heart Association, drinking at least one cup of coffee per day could reduce a woman's risk of stroke by as much as 25%.

Coffee contains large amounts of antioxidants that improve health and is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world. "Therefore, even small health effects of substances in coffee may have large public health consequences," said Susanna Larsson, Ph.D., lead author of the study and a researcher in the Division of Nutritional Epidemiology, National Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

“Some women have avoided consuming coffee because they have thought it is unhealthy,” said Dr Larsson.”In fact, increasing evidence indicates that moderate coffee consumption may decrease the risk of some diseases such as diabetes, liver cancer, and possibly stroke.”

The study doesn't prove that coffee lowers stroke risk, only that coffee drinkers tend to have a lower stroke risk. More studies on coffee consumption and stroke are needed before firm conclusions can be reached, Larsson said.

Note:  The study did not differentiate between caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee so these results may apply to both types of coffee consumption.

<b>ORANGE JUICE IS AN EFFECTIVE ANTI-AGING, FAT-BURNER DRINK<b>

Orange juice is a morning favorite. An excellent source of vitamin C, orange juice also is a good source of potassium.

oranges

Compared to other juices, orange juice is higher in protein, vitamin A, B-vitamins, vitamin C (it contains more than 10 times as much vitamin C as apple juice), calcium, iron and potassium, making it a heavyweight among fruit juices.

Orange juice contains also flavonoids, important for their strong antioxidant activity. A study from the US (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, April 2010), says that flavonoids from orange juice may neutralize the detrimental effects of consuming a high-fat, high-carbohydrate meal.

"Our data show, for the first time to our knowledge, that drinking orange juice with a meal high in fat and carbohydrates prevented the marked increases in reactive oxygen species and other inflammatory agents," says Husam Ghanim, PhD, first author on the study.

Free radicals, or reactive oxygen species, are known to induce inflammation in blood vessel linings and contribute to the risk of heart attack and stroke. Study researchers say the potent preventative effect of orange juice likely is linked to its heavy load of the flavonoids naringenin and hesperidin, which are major antioxidants.

A new excellent reason to keep drinking our healthy morning glass of orange juice!

Remember:

1.       Drinking an 8-ounce glass counts as one of your five necessary fruit and vegetable servings for the day.

2.       Freshly squeezed juice contains more vitamin C than “made from concentrate” canned or frozen juices.

3.       The vitamin C content of canned juices may deteriorate upon exposure to air, so be sure to refrigerate and tightly seal opened containers.

<b>MEDITERRANEAN DIET: A BEAUTY SECRET PART OF UNESCO LIST<b>

Tasty, healthy and emotionally sustaining - what's not to like?

It has long been associated with rude health, fresh local produce and relaxed family gatherings. But now the Mediterranean diet ranks alongside the Great Pyramid of Giza and Cambodia's Angkor Wat complex on the Unesco World Heritage list.

mediterranean pic nic

In November 2010, the fabled Mediterranean Diet has been inscribed on the UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Italians celebrated in Rome with a Maxi-Spaghettata, where free dishes of pasta al pomodoro were served to anyone who happened by.   As happy eaters dug their forks into their plates, the Mediterranean diet seemed quite tangible.

The initiative to include the Mediterranean Diet on the list began four years ago when Italy, Spain, Greece, and Morocco put it forth. It did not meet UNESCO’s guidelines and the initiative was rejected. Last August the four countries, with Italy coordinating, reworked their submission request.

Italian Agriculture Minister Giancarlo Galan said: "To be included on the UNESCO list is a great success for our country, our culinary traditions and our culture. 'The Mediterranean diet represents a style of life based on eating typical home grown products in the happy company of family and friends. UNESCO has realized that this tradition passed down from generation to generation deserves to be recognized."

Aldo Belkouar, president of Tatchme Natural Beauty, said: "I am so happy that the Mediterranean diet had this outstanding international recognition. Now, my hope is that this healhty and joyful lifestyle will help improving the lives of more and more people around the world."

What is the Mediterranean Diet?

As the UNESCO states…

“The Mediterranean diet constitutes a set of skills, mediterrenean foodsknowledge, practices and traditions ranging from the landscape to the table, including the crops, harvesting, fishing, conservation, processing, preparation and, particularly, consumption of food.

The Mediterranean diet is characterised by a nutritional model that has remained constant over time and space, consisting mainly of olive oil, cereals, fresh or dried fruit and vegetables, a moderate amount of fish, dairy and meat, and many condiments and spices, all accompanied by wine or infusions, always respecting beliefs of each community.”

The Mediterranean diet (from the Greek diaita,or way of life) encompasses more than just food. It promotes social interaction, since communal meals are the cornerstone of social customs and festive events. It has given rise to a considerable body of knowledge, songs, maxims, tales and legends.

The system is rooted in respect for the territory and biodiversity, and ensures the conservation and development of traditional activities and crafts linked to fishing and farming in the Mediterranean communities which Soria in Spain, Koroni in Greece, Cilento in Italy and Chefchaouen in Morocco are examples.

Women play a particularly vital role in the transmission of expertise, as well as knowledge of rituals, traditional gestures and celebrations, and the safeguarding of techniques.”

The Mediterranean diet is Italy’s third item on the Intangible Cultural Heritage list -Unesco had already included Sicilian puppet theatre and the pastoral songs of Sardinia as irreplaceable cultural gems. The Intangible Cultural List was started in 2003 and now comprises some 166 entries.

Olive Oil: An Ancient Beauty Secret for Flawless Skin

Olive oil is particularly characteristic of the Mediterranean diet. The health and therapeutic benefits of olive oil were first mentioned by Hippocrates, the father of medicine. For centuries, the nutritional, cosmetic and medicinal benefits of olive oil have been recognized by the people of the Mediterranean.

Olive oil was used to maintain skin and muscle suppleness, heal abrasions, and soothe the burning and drying effects of sun and water. Olive oil was administered both internally, and externally - for health and beauty.

olive oil beautyOlive oil will:

  • Promote a smooth, radiant complexion
  • Help maintain elasticity of skin
  • Heal dry, brittle nails and soften cuticles
  • Condition and add shine to hair

Olive oil is high in antioxidants, including vitamin E. Antioxidants are nutritional powerhouses that protect against age-accelerating free radicals. The oil of this miraculous fruit will guard your body and your skin... from the inside out.

Tatchme promotes the healhty Mediterranean lifestyle through natural beauty products.

We developed an innovative ingredient unique to our formulations. This emulsifier is a combination of fatty olive oil acids, which has the ability to generate skin-compatible liquid crystals. The structure and optical features of these natural formulations from olive oil  promote skin luminescence.

<b>CAN DRINKING COFFEE HELP YOU LIVE LONGER AND LOOK YOUNGER? <b>

coffee for beauty

Maybe; but at least it seems that a cup a day may keep the doctor away. Not convinced? Read on...

There are many who believe that coffee is bad for one’s health. However, several studies regarding the effects of coffee on health have revealed that, if consumed regularly and in moderation, coffee provides a number of anti-aging benefits. For example, Harvard Women's Health Watch claims that moderate coffee consumption, defined as 3 to 4 cups per day, is actually beneficial to your health.

Here’s some of the mostly good news about coffee:

1. Coffee is the #1 source of antioxidants in the American diet

Fruits and vegetables are the richest sources of antioxidants. While the amount of antioxidants per serving is indeed much higher in things like berries, beans, and pecans, these foods are consumed less frequently than coffee. In fact, a 2005 study found that Americans get more antioxidants from coffee than anywhere else (Institute of Coffee Studies at Vanderbilt University). Surprisingly, both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffees provide similar amounts of antioxidants.

2. Coffee has anti-cancer properties

Last year, researchers found that coffee drinkers were 50% less likely to get liver cancer than nondrinkers. By drinking 2 cups per day, you’re also slashing your risk of getting colon cancer by 25 percent. Some studies have also found ties to lower rates of breast and skin cancers as well.

3. Coffee can reduce risk fro Type2 diabetes

Coffee contains chemicals that lower blood sugar. Heavy coffee drinkers (4 or more cups a day) may be half as likely to get diabetes as light drinkers or nondrinkers.

4. Coffee increases your metabolism

Beneficial in terms of weight loss, your morning cup can significantly speed up metabolism by about 10 percent during the first three hours following consumption.

5. Coffee protects against brain diseases

It provides coffee-drinkers with protection against certain age-related brain problems, such as Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia.  Also, coffee seems to protect men, but not women, against Parkinson’s disease. One possible explanation for the sex difference may be that estrogen and caffeine need the same enzymes to be metabolized, and estrogen captures those enzymes.

COFFEE FOR BEAUTY

Beside its healthy properties, coffee is also a fabulous beauty aid. Here are the advantages of this product in terms of cosmetic use:

  • Stop wrinkles

Coffee is one of the richest sources of antioxidants, much more than red wine, green tea and cocoa. Antioxidants prevent free radicals from damaging skin cells damage, one of the reasons for premature aging and wrinkles.

  • No dark rings around your eyes

Coffee is very often use in facials as it brightens up the skin but equivalently also helps in lightening and tightening of skin. It also reduces pigmentation.

  • No cellulite

Caffeine dehydrates fat cells and it is also a diuretic, which absorbs water from the skin cells, preventing and treating cellulite.

Last but not least…coffee is a natural APHRODISIAC!

Coffee not only provides more healthful antioxidants, it also helps clear the mind and perk up the energy.

Coffee excites not just the body, but can also elevate mood. The drink is essentially the world's most socially acceptable stimulant. In fact, its stamina-enhancing ability has led it to become a status symbol in certain cultures. Do not abuse: too much coffee can kill the stimulating effects.

Remember: The caffeine found in coffee can stay in your system for up to 12 hours, making it more difficult to fall asleep, and it affects your quality of sleep as well. Caffeine is also a diuretic, which can lead to dehydration.

Note: The recommended maximum amount of coffee an average person should drink per day is 3 to 4 cups. If you are pregnant and/or predisposed to get high blood pressure and heart disease, caffeine might be harmful over time.  Please consult your doctor.

If your skin needs some help after a long day or during the change of seasons, here's how to use fresh pumpkin for a rejuvenating anti-aging facial.

You can either use the pulp fresh or you can use it cooked to prepare the puree. While cooking, some of the enzyme will be lost, but it will still have a powerful effect.

<b> PAPAYA: THE FRUIT OF THE ANGELS TURNS INTO A STRONG ANTIOXIDANT<b>

Deliciously sweet with musky undertones and a soft, butter-like consistency, it is no wonder the papaya was reputably called the "fruit of the angels" by Christopher Columbus.pap resized 600

Papayas offer not only the luscious taste and sunlit color of the tropics, but are rich sources of antioxidant nutrients such as carotenes, vitamin C and flavonoids; the B vitamins, folate and pantothenic acid; and the minerals, potassium and magnesium; and fiber.

As we know, vitamin C is a key component of a skin-friendly diet. Beside its many benefits, vitamin C helps make collagen, which is the protein fiber that's responsible for giving skin its strength and vitality.

Papaya has been long known as a health fruits and a secret to long life all over the world, but Japan made the most out of this fruit…

An anti-aging gift from Japan: Fermented Papaya Preparation®

Japanese scientists noticed that individuals with higher amounts of papaya in their diets experienced certain health benefits.

On the other side, Japan is famous for a country with longest living people in the world and one of the reasons is supposed to be their daily diet with many healthy fermented foods such as "natto" (fermented soybeans) and "miso" (fermented soybean paste).

So what? Well, it is simple: they combined papaya with specific yeasts and traditional Japanese fermentation techniques… Fermented Papaya Preparation (FPP) was born. A powerful nutritional supplement, FPP has been used in Japan for decades and it is also an extremely popular supplement in France and other parts of Europe. A major scientific study (1998) examined the antioxidant action of the fermented papaya preparation on free radicals. Free radicals have been related with aging and diseases, such as cancer, diabetes and especially in neurological disorders, for example, Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease. Results suggested that the fermented papaya preparation has antioxidant actions and that it may be prophylactic food against the age related and neurological diseases associated with free radicals.

Fifteen years after its appearance on the market, over 30 clinical studies show that FPP inhibits dangerous hydroxyl free radicals. In addition, researchers and medical professionals have been studying FPP for years, tracking its effect on the immune system and aging. Even Dr. Luc Montagnier, co-discover of HIV 1 & 2 virus, recommends using FPP as part of a tri-therapy (including antibiotics) that reduces the proliferation of the virus and stimulates the immune system.

img top about resized 600Dosages of FPP  vary depending on individual needs and usage.

  • For basic anti-aging support, 3 grams per day is fine.
  • For additional support, up to 9 grams per day is recommended.
  • To add a boost to your immune system when you need it, start out with 6-9 grams a day for the first 2-3 days (at the beginning of a cold, for example) and then move back down to 3 grams per day.

Many health-conscious people in Japan and Europe have used FPP for many years as an anti-aging product without any side effects.

FPP is exclusively manufactured by Japanese company Osato.

<B> SOME OF NATURE'S BEST ANTI-AGING MEDICINE: BLUEBERRIES <b>

As one of the few fruits native to the United States, blueberries are a healthy part of the country’s history. Native Americans gathered fresh blueberries from forests and bogs and used them for food and medicinal purposes. Today, blueberries have gained a reputation as being a superfruit because of their nutritional benefits.

Facts

Cultivated blueberries contain approximately 57 calories per 100 grams, no fat, only 1 mg sodium, and provide 2.4 grams fiber.  Wild blueberries are smaller than the cultivated highbush varieties―approximately 1,600 wild blueberries in a pound, compared with around 500 cultivated―so they tend to be more nutrient-dense. One of the most notable differences is that wild blueberries contain more than eight times more manganese per 100 grams than cultivated blueberries. Wild varieties also have 25% fewer calories.

Blueberries: nature's super food

Blueberries are often hailed as a superfruit: high in fibre, loaded with vitamin C, a rich source of potassium, folate and calcium, and high in antioxidants, which could reverse such age-related declines as memory loss and help reduce buildup of the bad cholesterol that contributes to heart disease and stroke. Some nutritionists claim that dark-coloured berries help protect against cancer.

Blueberries are antioxidant powerhouses.

im resized 600

The antioxidants found in blueberries actively fight and neutralize free radicals, the substances that are produced within the body in increasing amounts as we get older and cause irrevocable cell damage as well as affecting our DNA.

Blueberries are some of nature's best anti-aging products.

A recent study published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry found that blueberries deliver 38% more of free radical fighters that red wine. Along with carrots, blueberries provide an excellent source of vitamin A, and are known to prevent vision loss due to aging.

People are buying them for their health benefits and because they require no preparation whatsoever. So-called lazy fruits, have shot up in popularity in recent years as commuters in a rush and fussy eaters embrace foods that don't get the eaters' hands dirty.

Although blueberries make an enticing addition to your muffins and cakes, the best way to take advantage of their nutritional benefits is by eating a cup of fresh blueberries every morning. This can be done by adding them to your cereal, yogurt or just as they are with a little crème fraiche on top.

A bowl of blueberries can give almost five times more benefits than a bowl of apple wedges.

A diet rich in colorful fruits and vegetables is a healthy way to manage weight, control diabetes and prevent cancer. Packed with antioxidants and a low calorie count, blueberries are nutrient-rich choice for a healthier life.

Enjoy!

Note: The SUPERFOOD category is a relatively new marketing approach for promoting common or rare fruits used as raw materials and ingredients for the global industries of functional foods. Blueberries– became known as a superfruit when its exceptional antioxidant properties were revealed by publication of United States Department of Agriculture assays on antioxidant strength. By refinement of the assay and new analyses published in 2007, other berry fruits such as Goji Berries have superseded blueberries on the antioxidant rankings.

TOP-LEVEL SPORT IS A YOUNG PERSON'S GAME?

Youth usually wins but nobody has dared tell Jeannie Longo yet, the French woman famed for her competitive streak…

Considered the greatest women's road cyclist of all time, Jeannie Longo has clocked up a stunning 57th national title in the French championships, winning the time trial for the third consecutive year. Her victory came 31 years after she took her first blue, white and red jersey on the road back in 1979. It brings her total of national titles to a staggering 57… on road and track (she's got 13 world titles too and an Olympic Gold)

Jeanine Longo

Now 51 years of age, the legendary competitor shows little signs of slowing down, and will doubtlessly be aiming for number 60 in the years to come.

"I'm from the mountains and follow a biological diet," she says by way of explanation for her longevity.

Jeannie Longo has been a sports enthusiast since her childhood, encouraged by her mother, a school and gym teacher, and her father, who also taught his three daughters to box and wrestle.

Cycling does seem to be a sport where with the right training, and attitude plus a good set of genes the best can sometimes stay at or near the top longer than might be expected. Lance Armstrong will still be a contender at this year's Tour just over a year short of his 40th birthday. The 49 year-old Malcolm Elliot won a round of this year's Halford's Tour Series and played a pivotal role in his Motorpoint Marshalls Pasta team's charge to overall victory in the series…

Keen on cycling now??
