ROBERTS & TURLINGTON’S L’OREAL ADS BANNED FOR TOO MUCH AIRBRUSHING

Actress Julia Roberts and super model Christy Turlington are supposed to be among the world's most beautiful women, but not according to a cosmetics giant that airbrushed their pictures so much they have now been banned….

The official British watchdog group, the Advertising Standards Authority  (ASA) ruled that Julia Roberts’ L’Oréal advertisement for Lancôme and Maybelline campaign featuring Christy Turlington breached the advertising standards code for exaggeration and being misleading and banned them from future publication.

According to BBC News, Member of Parliament Jo Swinson has been lobbying against digitally altered images and she raised the red flag on two L’Oreal advertisements she claimed were “not representative of the results the products could achieve.” One ad features actress Julia Roberts for Lancome Teint Miracle foundation, while the other shows supermodel Christy Turlington for a Maybelline foundation called The Eraser. As evidenced by the ads, the results of these products, both owned by parent company L’Oreal, are just a little too flawless.

766784 julia roberts lancome resized 600In Roberts’ foundation ad, the text claims it is the “1st foundation that recreates the aura of perfect skin.” MP Jo Swinson felt the real magic was done digitally. L’Oreal admitted they retouched the photos, but stood true to their claim that the products could potentially yield these results. The ASA requested a before shot to illustrate just how much the ad was digitally manipulated, but unfortunately Roberts’ contract stipulates that no un-airbrushed shots can be released. L’Oreal supplied red carpet photos of the actress to illustrate her nice complexion, but that was not enough.

Christy Turlington’s Maybelline ad has also been pulled for portraying unrealistic results.

As for Christy Turlington’s ad, describe the imageL’Oreal confirmed to the ASA that the ad was modified to “lighten the skin, clean up make-up, reduce dark shadows and shading around the eyes, smooth the lips and darken the eyebrows.” They said they didn’t believe they had crossed the line, but the ASA said her left eye had been significantly altered (seriously, where are the wrinkles?). Once again, L’Oreal refused to provide the un-retouched images to see exactly how much work had been done. Since this is a requirement for the ASA, Turlington’s ad was pulled in the UK as well.

“Excessive airbrushing and digital manipulation techniques have become the norm, but both Christy Turlington and Julia Roberts are naturally beautiful women who don’t need retouching to look great.” said Swinson.

This is not the first time the British government has banned advertisements for being too heavy on the retouching. In 2009 it banned an Olay ad featuring Twiggy for similar reasons.

<b>BEAUTY SLEEP IS A POWERFUL, NATURAL ANTI-AGING WEAPON<b>

couple sleeping

Beauty sleep is not a myth and sleep does lessen the severity of wrinkles in the face and neck, at least temporarily.

Early in the night-time sleep cycle, people typically have a surge in growth hormone. This period of deep sleep (stages 3 and 4 sleep) contributes to what people call "beauty sleep" as secretion of growth hormone helps repair and rebuild body tissues like muscle and bone. Increased growth hormone release is believed to be linked to the fasting state which develops in human sleep.

There is some evidence that skin cells regenerate faster at night than during the day. Cell division happens throughout the day, but peaks around 2 am. This is literally renewal and rejuvenation during sleep. The peak in cell division happens even if you stay awake at night, while the surge in growth hormone doesn't.

Night-time Beauty Tips

   1.     Apply a Good Night Cream

Sleep does lessen the severity of wrinkles in the neck and face, at least temporarily. Part of this is due to a shift in body position - lying down diverts the force of gravity. But there's more to beauty sleep than that.

During sleep the whole body, including the face, perspires more. This moisture on the skin smoothes out wrinkles. Some cosmetics, like Tatchme® Powerful Anti-Wrinkles Night Cream Relax make your face looks better by making the skin moister while infusing natural anti-wrinkles active.

   2.      Sleep on your back

A website produced by the American Academy of Dermatologists suggests that "resting your face on the pillow in the same way every night for years on end also leads to wrinkles." They suggest sleeping on your back to avoid wrinkles.

   3.      Avoid caffeine after 2PM

Any coffee (or caffeinated tea, soda, energy drink or chocolate bar) after 2 pm will probably disrupt your sleep. Caffeine has a half-life of six hours which means that six hours after your last sip, half the caffeine is still in your body.

sleep for beauty Determine your personal sleep quotient (PSQ)

Pick a bedtime when you're likely to fall asleep quickly, and make sure it's at least eight hours before you need to get up.

Keep to this bedtime for the next week and note when you wake up each morning. If you need an alarm to wake up, if it's difficult to get out of bed or if you're tired during the day, eight hours isn't enough sleep for you. Move your bedtime up by 15 or 30 minutes the next week.

Continue doing this each week until you awaken without an alarm and feel alert all day. When you determine what you think is an ideal bedtime, cut 15 minutes off it to see if you're sleepy the next day. If so, add those 15 minutes back - and you've nailed your PSQ.

The Science Behind

December 2010 - The concept of beauty sleep has acquired some scientific backing, according to a study done by the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. "Our findings show that sleep-deprived people appear less healthy, less attractive,  and more tired compared with when they are well rested," the researchers wrote in a paper published in the BMJ, a British medical journal. "This suggests that humans are sensitive to sleep-related facial cues, with potential implications for social and clinical judgments and behavior."

In February 2011, Professor Francesco Cappuccio from the University of Warwick Medical School in the United Kingdom said the lack of beauty sleep was "a ticking time bomb" for health. Getting less than six hours sleep almost doubles your risk of heart disease!

<b>ESSENTIAL TRAVEL ANTI-AGING BEAUTY TIPS BY TATCHME<b>

travel beauty setIt's getting harder and harder to figure out how to travel and look great at the same time.

Current security restrictions make it tough to get all the hair and skin care products that we need through security. "You can bring up to 3 oz. (100 ml) of liquids on board if you place them in one, 1-quart clear plastic bag," says the T.S.A.'s Ann Richards. "There's no limit to how many 3-oz. (100 ml) containers you want to bring as long as they all fit in only one, 1-quart bag that can close with the products inside. Every other liquid must go in your checked baggage."

Tatchme is happy to share a few tricks to ensure your (sensitive) skin survives the trip.

Drink lots of Water

Dehydration is responsible for the dry skin and hair you might experience after a flight. It is also responsible for bloating. Simply put: When your body feels that is lacking fluids, it attempts to protect you from total dehydration by storing extra water in your stomach, around your eyes and in your wrists and ankles. Although it sounds contradictory, the only way to get rid of the bloat is to drink lots of water. This should begin a few days before you fly. Once on the plane, try to avoid dehydrating drinks such as coffee, alcohol and caffeinated sodas.

Apply Intense Moisturizer (before, during, and after the flight)

First, apply intense moisturizer the night before you are going to fly. This will help increase hydration in your skin before you're exposed to the dehydrating effects of cabin pressure.

The 5 Essentials to Take with You

1.       Cleanser

2.       Moisturizer with sunscreen (SFP 15)

3.       Night treatment

4.       Lip hydrator

5.       Body lotion

Additional Smart Travel Tips

Travel with samples it is easier (and inexpensive!). Pack perfume samples instead of a full-size bottle and ask your beauty advisor or dermatologist for sample sizes of your skin care products. If not, many beauty companies offer travel-size all-in-one kits.

Carry cleansing or refreshing wipes to clean dirt and makeup - even waterproof mascara - from your face, while nourishing skin with moisture. These are especially great for long flights.

Consider the climate at your destination. If it's drier than you are accustomed to, bring a heavier moisturizer; if it’s more humid, you might not need a moisturizer at all. Those traveling to hot, sunny places should consider bringing extra sunscreen to protect you from the discoloration and discomfort that could result from sunburn.

<b>PREGNANCY SKIN CARE TIPS: GET THE GLOW!<b>

Skin Care Ingredients to Avoid

pregnancy beauty

Everything you eat, apply, or come into contact with may affect not only you but also your baby. Because some topical ingredients get absorbed into the bloodstream, there are some it is better to avoid. While most commonly used products are completely safe, there are a handful of ingredients considered potentially harmful to a growing baby.

Here the list of skin care ingredients to avoid while pregnant:

1.       Retinoids (Vitamin A)

These powerful substances - found in some anti-aging moisturizers - are lauded for helping reduce wrinkles and improve skin tone.
But retinoids are one of the skin-care ingredients that experts recommend that expectant moms stay away from. Some studies have shown that high doses of vitamin A during pregnancy can be harmful to an unborn child and can cause birth defects.

2.       Salicylic acid

This mild acid is used to treat certain skin disorders, including acne, and you can find it in a number of skin products, such as cleansers and toners. It can penetrate facial oils to get deep into pores and clean out dead skin cells. Salicylic acid is in the aspirin family, so it can also help reduce inflammation or redness.
But salicylic acid is another no-no for pregnant women. High doses of the acid in its oral form have been shown in studies to cause birth defects and various pregnancy complications.

3.       Soy

Some moms-to-be seek out natural ingredients such as soy in their skin-care products, thinking that they're free from harmful effects. But that's not necessarily the case.
While soy-based lotions and facial products are generally safe to use, soy can make the 'mask of pregnancy' (dark splotches on facial skin) worse, as can oil of bergamot, which is in many organic products. Best to avoid during pregnancy.

Note: hair removers, sunscreens and makeup cosmetics are safe to use.

Tips to Avoid Stretch marks

According to the studies, between 75 and 90 percent of women develop stretch marks during the sixth and seventh months of pregnancy. Stretch marks are caused by the stretching of the underlying layers of skin during pregnancy and typically show up as pink or purplish streaks on the abdomen and -- in some cases -- the breasts and the thighs.

1.       Massage your skin

Massaging your skin everyday with moisturiser or a massage glove can help to improve circulation, which encourages new tissue to grow.

2.       Keep your diet healhty

It is also important to eat a balanced diet rich in vitamins, especially vitamin E, vitamin C, zinc and silica that help to keep skin the healthy. Drinking lots of water will help with many aspects of pregnancy, including keeping your skin hydrated.

3.       Apply a rich moisturizing cream

Start early, and pick very rich creams. Don’t be drawn in by false promises – there’s no proof these creams can actually prevent stretch marks, but there’s some evidence that frequent use from early on can help reduce the effects by keeping the skin supple, and the action of rubbing in the cream can encourage better circulation.

4.       Don’t eat for two!

Pregnant women need to take in extra calories to nourish baby (about 500 extra calories per day), but make sure these calories are from nutritious foods, not fatty ones, so that you put on weight gradually and are able to shed pounds easily once you’ve finished breastfeeding

Pregnancy Skin Care Routine

demi moore

Pregnancy skin care for pregnant women is really essential; skin care and pregnancy go hand-in-hand. In order to maintain a pregnancy skin care routine, mums-to-be will need to focus on the basics of skin care. Follow these 3 easy pregnancy skin care tips.

1.       Cleansing: no soap

Soap removes natural oils from the skin, so try using a moisturizing body wash instead. This will maintain the essential oils in pregnant skin and promote a healthy glow.

2.       Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

The turnover of skin cells is accelerated during pregnancy, so make sure you nourish and moisturize more than normal to keep skin looking healthy.

3.       Sun Protection

Skin pigmentation can change during pregnancy and skin may tan/burn much more easily. The most important addition you should make to your skin-care routine during pregnancy (and beyond) is a moisturizer with at least SPF 15, and with broad spectrum protection.

The GOLDEN ROLE: Rest & Relax

One of the most important things you can do during pregnancy is to get plenty of rest, and to find time to relax.

A pregnant woman needs more sleep than she does when she's not pregnant. In most cases, 8 to 10 hours of sleep a night will help you feel better.

This really is beauty sleep for you and your baby!

<b>ALSO MEN LOVE TATCHME NATURAL ANTI-AGING PRODUCTS!<b>

anti-aging men skin careIn today's society, anti aging skin care products are no longer only for women.

Both men and women experience signs of aging for almost the same reasons. However women tend to be more conscious of their appearance so they make much about this. Men on the other hand are just now becoming conscious of their appearance. And they too would like to look younger for as long as possible.

We want to share with you an email we received from one of Tatchme MEN customers few days ago.

“I wanted to give you my feedback on Tatchme.

I am a 52 year old man with decent skin. Mariel Hemingway told me and my wife about Tatchme and I purchased all the products and have been using them for one and a half months.

I just came from a retreat in the mountains where we stayed at a home in Keystone. The retreat was with a group of CEO's of companies in the Denver area and we have been together for 9 years.

I kept hearing throughout the weekend home much younger I looked. Men typically don't tell other men comments like that so I attribute that to my skin care with Tatchme as nothing else has changed.

While I was gone I had forgotten my products so I used XXXX which is a very expensive moisturizer from Switzerland. The first second I put it on my face I could smell all the artificial substances that make up this lotion.

I really didn't appreciate how healthful Tatchme was till I used a substitute product. So my initial comments are very positive!

Best regards, Steve ”

Also men deserve a flawless skin with a youthful look!

<b>HYALURONIC ACID: A POTENT ANTIOXIDANT<b>

What is it?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring chemical created by the body that provides cushioning for joints and connective tissues. It is an effective antioxidant and has an incredible ability to bind moisture to tissue.

Hyaluronic acid is present in every tissue of the body, and it performs many important functions. It helps deliver nutrients to and carry toxins from cells that do not have a blood supply, such as those found in cartilage.

Babies skin in full of hyaluronic acid which explains why a baby has such soft and moist skin. As we age the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin diminishes; we simply produce less of it. With age the level of Hyaluronic acid decreases in the body; that results in wrinkles.

Skin with high hyaluronic acid content             Skin with low hyaluronic acid content

skin with high HA

  skin with low HA
The skin remains hydrated and the surface is supple when the skin contains adequate concentrations of hyaluronic acid.    The skin loses its elasticity and the surface becomes dry, because moisture is lost as hyaluronic acid concentrations decrease.

Beneficial for the Skin

Hyaluronic acid is gaining popularity in the cosmetic and medical industries. Clinical studies have shown that it also helps wounds heal more quickly, and can reduce the appearance of both old and new scars.

Injectible hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane, are being to lessen the appearance of lines, sagging and depressions in the skin caused by acne scars or injury. Hyaluronic acid eventually breaks down and is absorbed in the body, so both cosmetic and medical applications are not permanent. In most cases, the hyaluronic acid augmentation usually lasts between 6-9 months. Repeat treatments will be necessary.

A Skin Care Ingredient

hyaluronic acid gel resized 600Cosmetic products containing hyaluronic acid claim to hydrate the skin, allowing it to appear smoother and more radiant.

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant skincare ingredient which means it draws water to the skin and increases the water content of the epidermis (or outer most layer of the skin). If you are in a humid environment, picture yourself on a tropical island, than a humectant like hyaluronic acid can actually draw water from the atmosphere around you to your skin.

The great thing about hyaluronic acid is that it holds 1,000 times its weight in water. Think of it as a super sponge!

Hyaluronic acid is extremely expensive; it is more than a 1,000 times expensive as glycerin for example, so most topical skincare products don’t contain enough of it in order to be effective over the long-term.

Injections and supplements

Hyaluronic acid is available by injection, but you can also find many oral supplements at health food stores, pharmacies, and online distributorships.

Studies show improvement in for most participants after only 2 to 4 months of oral supplementation, and some patients are able to decrease their dose after the desired results are achieved.

No Serious Side Effects

There have been no serious side effects associated with Hyaluronic acid, although some people find that their skin is irritated at the injection site, and there have been rare reports of oral supplements causing rashes and skin irritation as well.

Use of hyaluronic acid during pregnancy has not been evaluated so far.

REMINDER

Don’t forget – applying hyaluronic acid topically will not replace what your skin has lost as it ages. When applied topically hyaluronic acid simply acts as a great moisturizing agent – nothing more.

It does NOT replace your daily anti-aging skin care regimen. For best result use hyaluronic acid with Tatchme powerful natural anti-wrinkles night cream Energy.

Your Diet: Look for Soy and Starchy Root Foods

Animal products are considered to be the best natural sources of hyaluronic acid.

Soy is a great vegetable option, because of its tendency to increase levels of estrogen in the body--which in turn increases levels of hyaluronic acid. Soy beans in their original baby form are edamame. Tofu, or soy bean curd, is the most versatile soy food. Soy milk, soy ice cream or soy yogurt are a few other options.

A recent study into the benefits of hyaluronic acid focused on the residents of Yazuri Hara, a small village in Japan. Living into their 80s and 90s in very good health, they were smooth skinned and almost wrinkle free. The studied revealed that the starchy root vegetables in their diet enabled their bodies to maintain a high production of hyaluronic acid.

Although there are no known fuirts nor vegetables containing hyaluronic acid nor specific foods that contain hyaluronic acid, some starchy root vegetables, including Satsumaimo (a type of sweet potato), Konyaku (a type of gletanious root), Satoima (a type of sticky potato), have a greater impact on stimulating the body’s natural production of hyaluronic acid.

<b>FANNY OR FACE: WOULD YOU GAIN WEIGHT TO LOOK YOUNGER?<b>

Wouldn't it be nice to have an excuse not to watch the scales this Christmas? We might just have found one...

Researchers have found that carrying extra weight could disguise the appearance of wrinkles as you get older (read after 50).

This is because as we age, we tend to lose fat in our faces. Of course, any weight gain should be moderate (say, 5 to 10 pounds, or 2.5 to 5 kilos. The heart-healthy Mediterranean diet emphasizes healthy fats, fruits and vegetables.

Those who want both a slim figure and a girlish face should consider dermal fillers such as Juvéderm, Restylane and Perlane (see with your dermatologist).

The Celebrity Advice

heidi klum 37

"The ultimate beauty secret for a woman getting older is, Don’t be too thin! It is always better to have a little meat on your bones," Heidi Klum, 37, tells Self in the December issue.

"When you are just muscle, you end up being gaunt in the face, and that makes you look older by 5 or 10 years."

She says sleep keeps her looking fresh "I go to bed at 8:30 most nights".

French actress Catherine Deneuve reportedly said, "After a certain age, you have to choose between your fanny and your face."

Slim down and live with a sagging face or pack on the pounds/kilos to look younger?

Apparently 60 percent of women said they'd rather be thin…

<b>BEAUTY SLEEP: AN ESSENTIAL ANTI-AGING SECRET<b>

Beauty sleep is not a myth and sleep does lessen the severity of wrinkles in the face and neck, at least temporarily. For this reason, dermatologists often suggest using your most performant skin creams before bed... Time to check out RELAX Tatchme® Powerful Anti-Wrinkles Night Cream.

To avoid puffy, bloodshot eyes, dark under-eye circles and a pale washed-out complexion -- and for peak alertness and energy -- experts say you need: 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night.

Early in the nighttime sleep beauty sleepcycle, people typically have a surge in growth hormone - and for growth hormone read youth hormone. This period of deep sleep, stages 3 and 4 sleep, contributes to what people call "beauty sleep" as secretion of growth hormone helps repair and rebuild body tissues like muscle and bone.

Many of the body’s cells also show increased production and reduced breakdown of proteins during deep sleep. Since proteins are the building blocks needed for cell growth and for repair of damage from factors like stress and ultraviolet rays, deep sleep may truly be "beauty sleep."

There is some evidence that skin cells regenerate faster at night than during the day. Cell division happens throughout the day, but peaks around 2 am. This is literally renewal and rejuvenation during sleep. The peak in cell division happens even if you stay awake at night, while the surge in growth hormone doesn't.

  • From 8pm to 11pm is the time for hydration and stimulation,
  • while 11pm to 3am is the time for nutrition and regeneration,
  • and 3am to 5am is the time for resting.

Remember: an hour before midnight is worth three afterwards.

Unlike common belief, sleep cannot be 'carried over' to the next day. Lack of sleep adversely impacts your body fat percentage and raises your risk of all sorts of diseases and illnesses like strokes and diabetes.

Here are some tips to help you get the sleep you need:

sleeping beautyDO

  • Exercise and get fresh air during the day.
  • Take a deep relaxing bath with your favorite scented bath essence and some candles.
  • Stay calm before bed time – try to empty your mind of the details from your day.
  • Relax while taking off make-up and preparing for bed. Enjoy the time you’re spending just on you.

DON’T

  • Avoid caffeine, nicotine or other stimulants within six hours of bedtime.
  • No sweets before bed time. High blood sugar interferes with growth hormone production which is essential to look younger for longer.
  • Minimize light, noise and temperature extremes; your bedroom should be comfortably cool.
  • Don't read, watch television or work in bed. Use the bed only to sleep.
  • Avoid large meals just before bedtime.

There are few things more frustrating than not being able to get to sleep.

For those who have difficulty sleeping, before you reach for your sleeping medications, you might want to try aromatherapy. This method is more natural and also serves to enhance the already countless benefits of sleep by aiding your bloodstream as it works through the night.

How Does Aromatherapy work?

  • Essential oils stimulate our sense of smell.
  • Smells enter through our nose and travel to the part of our brain that controls our moods, emotions and memory.
  • Things we smell have a significant impact on how we feel.

How to Use Scents for Sleep Problems

MASSAGE
One approach is to massage your neck, shoulders, and any other areas with a relaxing essential oil blend.
How to mix essential oils for a massage: Place up to 10 drops of your scents in a glass container, along with 10ml of carrier oil (like jojoba oil, for example). Place the lid on the container and shake the contents to mix, and then apply to the skin via massage.

BATH
Unwind with an essential-oil-enhanced bath before bedtime.
How to add essential oils to your bath: Mix up to 10 drops of your essential oils to your bath water once the water has finished running.

ATHMOSPHERE
You could also shake three or four drops of a sleep-promoting essential oil onto your pillow just before you're going to sleep, or blend 2 or 3 essential oils in the burner bowl and allow the mixture to diffuse in the air.

DRINKING TISANES

Chamomile, lavender and bergamot are three unique flowers  valued for their calming and relaxing effects on the human body and mind. You can brew tisanes with those flowers/plants. Drinking tisanes allows you to take a break and gives you few moments of simple, sensory delight.

NOTE: Pregnant women and those with allergies to similar plants—asters, daisies, chrysanthemums, or ragweed—should not ingest chamomille or use it topically.

<b>TATCHME BEST 6 TIPS TO AVOID DRY, ITCHY SKIN IN COLD WEATHER<b>

Now that weather has turned (very) cold, it's time to pay extra attention to your skin. There's nothing worse than dry, itchy skin. Dry skin can happen any time during the year, but is most prevalent in winter, one of the most challenging seasons when it comes to anti-aging skin care. skin care in cold wheater

In winter, low temperatures, low humidity and strong, harsh winds deplete skin of its natural lipid layer, which keeps the skin from drying out. The dry air from heating sources also sucks the moisture out of skin. To keep skin soft and supple, your goal is not to add moisture to skin, but to keep moisture in.

Once your skin gets raw, red and cracked, it can take several weeks for it to heal. Rather than suffer though the winter with dry skin, follow these tips and your skin will stay soft and smooth all season long.

  •  1 / Drink water

Keeping yourself internally moisturized and nourished is the number one way to prevent dry skin, especially in cold weather. Our bodies are made of 70% water, so staying hydrated is very important.  Make sure that you are consuming eight glasses of water, juice or decaffeinated tea throughout the day.

  • 2 / Use less hot water

Soapy hot water will deplete the natural oils from your skin. Your shower or bath should be lukewarm temperature. Also, keep your bathing times short, between 4-5 minutes, especially in the winter. And stay away from bubble baths that contain chemicals and alcohols. Use a natural or organic bath soak instead.

moisturize your skin

  • 3 / Moisturize After Showers or Hand Washing

Use a good moisturizer after your bath or shower. Crème and balm moisturizers are designed to seal the top layer of the skin, locking in moisture. Lotions are known as humectants, and are absorbed by skin. Aloe vera and coconut and sesame oil are fantastic humectants to apply after bathing. Use a balm or crème at night and lotion during the day.

  • 4 / Moisturize Your Hands & Feet

Put moisturizer on your hands and slip on a pair of gloves before going outside. Chapped, cracked hands are not only unattractive; they're also more prone to infection. At night, apply moisturizer to your feet and wear socks to bed. Your feet will feel dewy and moisturized in the morning.

  • 5 / Moisturize your lips

The skin on your lips retains less moisture than other parts of the body. Use a good lip balm to lock in moisture. Remember to use a lip balm that also has at least SPF 15. The lips are often the first place to exhibit signs of aging!

If you have severely dry lips, try medicated lip balms which contain extra-moisturizing ingredients like camphor. To remove dead skin from you lips, brush them gently with a toothbrush once a week. Then apply a good moisturizing balm.

  • 6 / Take extra care of your face

At night:

Over cleansing can dry out skin, so only cleanse once-a-day. Try using a gentle cream cleanser at night to remove dirt. Apply moisturizer after cleansing. Remember that crèmes are heavier, and might be best for use at night.

In the morning:

skin care in cold weather

Skip the soap and rinse face with lukewarm water. This will prevent the stripping of excess oils from the skin, especially in the winter. A facial lotion, one with sunscreen is best for day use.

Throughout the day:

Spritz face with facial water to replenish your skin. To remove dry, dead skin, exfoliate your face bi-weekly using a gentle scrub.

Your Winter Skin Care Regimen:

If you are using products with tretinoin, such as Retin-A or Renova, or are using alpha-hydroxy acids or glycolic acids, you may want to use these less frequently, as they may cause your skin to exfoliate and become more sensitive and dry. Avoid micro-dermabrasion and abrasive skin treatments, as these exfoliate the top layer of the skin, and leave the new layer of skin unprotected to the harsh elements. If you do use an exfoliant, remember to always apply a moisturizer immediately after rinsing your face to help seal in moisture and prevent skin from chafing.
